Governor Brown announced today the appointment of a new Chief Information Security Officer, Col. Keith Tresh who replaces Keith Parker who had been Acting CISO since TechLeader.TV friend and guest Mark Weatherford left to become vice president and chief security officer at the North American Electric Reliability Corp just over a year ago. Far too long not to have a permanent replacement in such a critical position; but with former State CIO Teri Takai  heading off to the Pentagon, an an acting State CIO until just a few weeks ago, not to mention an election and transition in between, perhaps not surprising.

Big job, and a tough job and even when Mark was there it never had the resources it deserves. Keith Parker did a fine job wearing two hats at Office of the CISO and at OTech over the last 13 months; but I am sure he’s probably happy relinquishing one to the new Keith.

Regardless, it’s nice to see new State CIO Carlos Ramos pulling his team together so quickly. And my sources tell me Keith is a real good guy and has a solid track record in State government….despite being Army! Heh

TechLeader.TV will look forward to having the Colonel on the show once he settles in. Here’s the announcement from the Governor’s Office courtesy of the California Technology Agency’s Bill Maile.
