    CalOES Director      Mark Ghilarducci

At a much anticipated TechLeader.TV Educational Seminar yesterday at the Sacramento Sheraton sponsored by Tanium and focusing on cybersecurity, the keynote from CalOES Director Mark Ghilarducci did not disappoint.

Arguably one of the primary questions on the minds of our audience of nearly 100 state security and other IT officials was the outcome of the major leadership changes over at the California Department of Technology (CDT) earlier this year. Specifically, were the rumors true that CDT’s division of the California Information Security Office was leaving for CalOES.

A number of us were in fact surprised that the Governor’s May Revise budget last week did not mention the State CISO’s office, as we anticipated that it was moving over under CalOES. Significantly, TechLeader.TV had even confirmed from several sources that the moving vans and CISO personnel had done just that in recent months.

However, in the words of OES Director Ghilarducci yesterday, “The Office of the State CISO has not been consolidated, has not been merged, nor has it been acquired by OES. It is simply embedded at CalOES.”

To paraphrase ‘ol Sam Langhorne Clemens, perhaps rumors of CDT’s loss of their Security Division may be premature.

It can just be found at a new address.
